European player’s have an awful record in this event, the last European winner was back in 1969 in the shape of Tony Jacklin. Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington can all be backed respectively at best odds 28/1, 40/1 and 50/1 with either VC Bet or Sporting Odds.
Due to the poor performance of European players in this event, Americans such as Phil Mickleson are attracting a lot of support at best odds 7/1 with Ladbrokes and Bet 365. Top players from the rest of the world Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen are available at best odds 14/1 and 20/1 respectively with Stan James.
Skybet have offered a special market, betting without Woods and Mickleson. Without the two favourites, Tim Clark could be an interesting each-way bet at odds of 28/1. The 2008 Ryder Cup contest looks like one of the hardest to call in recent times, and this is reflected in the betting with such little difference in odds between the two. The Americans appear to be dogged by a lack of team spirit, and many golf pundits have the opinion that Tiger Woods doesn’t play to his full ability when competing as part of a team.
The Europeans on the other hand appear to be in good form, especially Padraig Harrington who has now won 3 majors in just 13 months. This is the first time Europe have ever been odds on going into a Ryder Cup event on foreign soil (This years event is being held at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky September).
For anyone looking for a Ryder Cup special bet, the odds on a hole in 1 are 5/1 with Paddy Power.

Nearly all online betting sites offer free bets to new customers as a way of enticing you to bet with them. Whilst there are some catches to the free bet offers, generally speaking they are attractive to customers and are a great way to make money if you use them wisely and understand the terms and conditions.
Each free bet works in a slightly different way, but the general concept is that you stake an amount of your own money first, and once that bet is settled, the betting site will give you the same amount in credit as a free bet token. Usually this can be used to stake on any event of your choice. However, you should be aware that only the winnings from the free bet are returned, so don’t go backing a 1.01 shot! We would usually advise that you make a selection of evens or greater (and many bookmakers do stipulate minimum odds for both qualifying bet and free bet) to ensure you make the most of these promotional offers.

The decision to ditch Chris Hughton by Newcastle is a bizarre one. A manager who brought the club up to the premiership and has re-installed them as a Premier League team, did the Mike Ashley really believe they would be challenging for Europe in their first season back. Check out free bets available for this market, or the latest previews in our football betting news.
Early favourite for the post is ex-Hammers boss Alan Pardew, why is beyond me but he is tipped heavily on a number of sites as favourite for the post and is priced best at 6/4 on PaddyPower. However breaking news is that Martin Jol, the man who looked ‘certain’ to get the Fulham job over the summer, has resigned as Ajax boss. Fuelling rumours that he is headed for St James Park, he is tipped heavily on the sites now but the best odds can be found at William Hill at 5/4.
For those of you who like a bit more romance and entertainment in your football, there is the prospect of a Tyneside return for Alan Shearer, the England and Geordie hero is priced handsomely as an outsider in the race at 66/1 on Paddy Power.
More realistically though is Martin O’Neil, whose Departure from Aston Villa earlier in the season leaves him free for the post, the only problem is that O’Neil walked over a fall out with the board and chairman because of a lack assurances for the team. The same problem some must argue looms if he manages under Ashley, so the bookmakers have cautiously priced him out of being a favourite but a close outsider, with the best odds being at 10/1 on Sky Bet.
A last contender is Alan Curbishley who could prove to be a shock candidate but is helped by a stable CV which may appeal to Ashley, he is best priced at 9/1 on Sky Bet.

Benitez has found his future come under intense scrutiny after seeing his side drop out of the race for the Premier League and teetering on the brink of an early exit from the Uefa Champions League. The Liverpool manager maintains he remains unconcerned by the speculation and is focused on the job at hand but a form book that reads one win from the last nine has lead to people questioning his transfer policy and ability to produce homegrown talent since succeeding Gerard Houllier in 2004 leaving his future in doubt. Therefore we think it’s about time we examine the next Liverpool Manager betting odds and see if there is any early value before Benitez gets the chop. Check out free bets available for this market, or the latest previews in our football betting news.
An injury-hit Liverpool will come back after the international break to face a team looking to dethrone their status as a top four club in the form of Manchester City. Rafa will then have to take his men to Romania in a crucial Champions League game against Debrechen where anything other than a win would send Liverpool spiralling out of the competition. With this in mind it is a distinct possibility that Rafa will be gone before the Christmas turkey is on the table.
This time last year the Reds chief found himself in a similar precarious position when disputes with the club owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks led to them seeking the services of Jurgen Klinsmann, the recently dismissed Bayern Munich coach. The best odds for him to become the next permanent manager are at 12/1 offered by Victor Chandler.
We can’t talk about one of the top four clubs managers job without mentioning the self dubbed ‘Special One’. The Portuguese boss may have his enemies on Merseyside, but he’s recognised as one of the best and most sought after coaches in Europe which is reflected in his odds. Mourinho’s current contract with Inter Milan expires in 2011 but he has made no secret of his desire to one day return back to England to coach and the Liverpool post may be too tempting for him to resist, the best odds for the ‘Special One’ can be found over at Paddy Power at 11/4.
If you’re looking at an outsider to back then it may be worth considering Paul Jewell, you can find odds of 66/1 over at Skybet. The ex-Wigan manager started his career with Liverpool and has been out of a job since a parting of the ways with Derby County back in December of last year. Another outsider who is worth considering is Slaven Bilic, the ex-west ham defender knows the premiership and has a professed affection for the league where he once plied his trade as a player. The coach has admirers across Europe in light of his achievements with the national side and after finishing third in the World Cup qualifying group he had planned to step down when his contract expires this year paving the way for a return to the premiership. The best odds for him are over at Paddy Power at 33/1.
